Types of Personal Injuries
Back Injury
An accident has occurred, and now you have seriously injured your back. Back injuries can result in pain, lost work, inconvenience, and possibly other serious health problems. Back injuries can impair you for the rest of your life.
Broken Bones
Falls, construction accidents, traffic accidents, sporting accidents can all be the cause of broken bones. There are two common types of broken bones. Simple fractures are when the skin is not punctured. A compound fracture happens when the skin is pierced by the broken bone.

Types of Personal Injuries (cont’d)
Chemical, Fire, Thermal, & Scald Burns
Chemical burns occur when the skin is in contact with strong acids or alkaloids. The chemical will continue to “eat” away the skin and its deeper layers until it’s washed away. Common chemicals found both in the home and at the workplace include bleach, boric acid, paint thinner, and plumbing decloggers.
Building fires kill more Americans than all natural disasters combined, with smoke as the most significant cause of death, injury, and property loss in these fires.
Thermal burns are the most common type of burn. They result from contact with steam, flames, flash, and hot surfaces or hot liquids with a temperature above 115 degrees F. If you’ve been burned by boiling water, you’ve been burned with a substance that’s 212 degrees F. or more.
Scald injury accounts for two-thirds of all visits to hospital emergency rooms and more than one-third of all admissions to burn centers, according to the New York State Department of Heath. Overly hot water is especially harmful for young children because their skin is thinner than adults’.
Eye Injury
The eyes can be injured in many ways. Scratches, cuts, foreign bodies, objects striking the eye, burns, chemicals, and punches in the face can all cause eye injuries.
Coma
A person in a coma is alive but in a very deep state of unconsciousness. A patient in a coma is alive but unable to respond normally to pain, light, or other people. Intoxication, infection, metabolic problems, disease and neurologic injuries may cause comas. Lost wages and medical bills can be extremely costly to both a family and the patient.
Scarring Injury
While not life threatening, severe scarring can be upsetting and make it difficult to face the day. Repeated injuries, lacerations, punctures, surgery, blisters, and other accidents can cause scarring.
Spinal Cord Injuries
Each year in the United States, there are about 10,000 spinal cord injuries that people survive. Of these injuries, half result in paraplegia and half in quadriplegia. This type of serious injury can be very costly – physically, emotionally, and financially.
